Read the invitation before planning your practice
This guide is for a one-way recorded interview, rather than a live call. Note the role, deadline and any instructions about notes or assistance. Set aside time to deal with a technical problem before the deadline, rather than treating the last available minute as your start time.
Spark Hire’s official candidate walkthrough describes a setup and practice stage before the interview. For each question, check the displayed think time, takes and response limit. With limited think time, recording starts after the countdown; with unlimited think time, you start it yourself.
Those settings are the conditions to practise under. Do not assume you have a minute to think, three minutes to speak, or another attempt unless your instructions say so.
Use the practice stage to check your setup
The official walkthrough includes recording and reviewing a practice video. Use that opportunity on the device and in the room you intend to use for the interview.
- Say a full sentence at your normal speaking volume and listen for distracting background noise.
- Check that the camera frames your face comfortably and the light is in front of you.
- Close applications that might compete for your camera or microphone.
- Read the on-screen controls before moving from practice to the actual questions.
For a more detailed equipment check, follow the home recording checklist. Keep setup practice separate from trying to guess what the employer will ask.
Prepare examples that can answer more than one prompt
Choose two or three requirements from the job description. For each, find a situation in which you used that skill. Write down what happened, what you personally did, and what changed or what you learned.
Here is a fictional example for an entry-level support role. A candidate helped at a community event where visitors were queuing at the wrong table. They checked the instructions with the organiser, explained the correct route and stayed nearby to direct later arrivals. That same event could supply evidence for communication, noticing a problem or helping someone under pressure.
The answer should still change with the question. For “How did you handle confusion?”, focus on clarifying instructions. For teamwork, explain how you coordinated with the organiser. Do not invent a reduction in waiting time if nobody measured it.
Use our answer structure to organise the facts. If paid work is limited, the first-job examples guide can help you find suitable material.
Rehearse the conditions, not a memorized performance
- Pick a practice prompt based on a requirement in the job description.
- Use the preparation and response limits shown in your invitation or question instructions. If those are not available yet, use a practice limit and treat it as provisional.
- Record one complete answer. Try recovering from a small stumble instead of restarting immediately.
- Listen for a direct answer, a specific action and a clear ending. Choose one improvement for the next take.
If the opening is where you get stuck, work through “Tell me about yourself” on video. A draft script can help you find the wording; the final rehearsal should follow the employer’s rules on notes and assistance.
Finish through the employer’s interview link
Follow the submission instructions on screen and look for confirmation that you have finished. If a recording or submission fails, note the error and contact Spark Hire candidate support through the help link in its walkthrough. Tell the hiring team if a deadline may be affected. Avoid assuming that an interrupted take was saved.
Where Requt helps
Requt can help turn your resume and the job description into an outline, ask for missing details during intake, and give feedback on a practice recording. Review every factual claim in the script, then rehearse until the wording feels like yours.
Requt is independent of Spark Hire. It does not know your employer’s upcoming questions, reproduce their assessment or submit the interview for you. Its feedback is a preparation aid, not a prediction of a hiring decision.
Platform details checked against Spark Hire’s official candidate walkthrough on September 9, 2026. The exercises and fictional example above are Requt’s coaching suggestions.
A few more things
Common questions
Does opening the invitation immediately start the interview?
Spark Hire’s candidate walkthrough says accepting an invitation does not immediately begin recording. Read the walkthrough and your invitation before choosing to begin.
How much think time and how many takes do I get?
Check the information displayed for each question. Spark Hire supports different settings, so someone else’s experience is not a reliable guide to your limits.
Will I get the questions in this guide?
These are rehearsal examples, not a list of your employer’s questions. Prepare evidence that fits the job description and listen carefully to each actual prompt.
Can Requt submit my Spark Hire interview?
No. Requt helps you prepare separately. Complete and submit the actual interview through the link supplied by the hiring company.
